Shopping at Wanamakers Department Store at 13th and Market Streets in Philadelphia is a shared experience among many Pennsylvanians. With the closure of its successor Macy’s this month, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania will host a memory collection event.
Housed at HSP, the John Wanamaker archives include 150 years of building and display designs, merchandise catalogs, business correspondence, photographs of activities, and much more in the hundreds of boxes and volumes. A sample of these documents will be on view, and participants will have the opportunity to share their memories with others.
Doors open at 4:30pm for viewing the collection. Program to begin at 5:00pm.
