About This Performance Praised for her imagination and exceptionally vivid playing, Einav Yarden returns to PCMS following her 2018 recital debut. A student of the late Leon Fleisher, the Berlin-based pianist brings a “sense of immense majesty, tempered by gentleness and quiet grace” (Washington Post) to a program that features Robert Schumann’s Kreisleriana, Op. 16-one of the major piano works of the Romantic era, in which the composer sought to capture the contrasting sides of his own character, as well as the essence of his future wife, Clara Wieck. She has been regularly presented in recital at important venues around the world and as soloist with orchestras including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin (and the Rundfunkchor Berlin), Minnesota Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic, Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Bradenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt, Bucharest Philharmonic, and Jerusalem Symphony. Ms. Yarden’s US engagements over the past few seasons include successful solo recitals at major series and festivals including the 92nd Street Y in New York, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, Ravinia Music Festival, Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis, and Performance Santa Fe. In the 2023-24 season, she makes her debut at international recital series of note including Piano aux Jacobins in Toulouse and the Kaufman Music Center’s Piano Dialogues series in New York City, in addition to performances in Detroit, Los Angeles, and Santa Rosa. Ms. Yarden also performs with several US orchestras in the current season, including the Bellingham (WA), Racine (WI), and Rockford (IL) Symphony Orchestras, including the West Coast premiere of the rarely heard 1939 piano concerto by Holocaust victim Viktor Ullmann. Other noteworthy stages on which she has performed include the Rose Theater of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York; the Phillips Collection in Washington; the Berlin Philharmonie and the Philharmonie Chamber Music Hall, and Konzerthaus Berlin; the Beethoven-Haus Bonn; Schumannsaal in Düsseldorf; Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam; Salle Cortot and the Musée d’Orsay Auditorium in Paris, and others. In May 2023 Ms. Yarden released her fourth CD for Challenge Classics, Bach: Father & Son. The recording has received worldwide acclaim, including a double nomination for the Jarespreis (Yearly Prize) and quarterly prize of the prestigious ‘Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik’ and rave reviews from Germany’s Rondo Magazine, PIANONews, Klassik-Heute, Fono Forum, France’s L’Obs International and Clic-Musique Magazine, BBC Radio 3’s Record Review, Italy’s Primo Movimento, among others. Yarden recorded three other solo CDs for Challenge Classics, all of which received international claim on such leading international magazines as Gramophone, Fono Forum, Diapason, Piano News Magazine, Fanfare Magazine, Luister Magazine, International Piano Magazine, Amadeus Magazine and many others. Her Haydn Sonatas CD was awarded the prestigious German Records Critics’ Prize. A passionate chamber musician, Ms. Yarden devotes herself regularly to collaborations with other musicians and enthusiastically incorporates unique repertoire into her programs. Major festival appearances include the Ravinia Festival (USA), Ruhr Piano Festival (Germany), Verbier Festival (Switzerland), La Roque d’Anthéron International Piano Festival, Menton Festival, and Flâneries Musicales de Reims Festival (France), Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival, and Upper-Galilee Chamber Music Festival (Israel), and others. Ms. Yarden began teaching part-time at the University of Music Trossingen, Germany in fall 2023. She has held teaching positions at the University for Music Freiburg, the Music Conservatory of Lucerne University, and at the Frankfurt University for Music and Performing Arts. Between the summers of 2012 and 2017, she was a Collaborative Pianist at the Ravinia Festival’s esteemed Steans Music Institute. Among her competition awards are top prizes at the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Bonn, the Minnesota International Piano-e-Competition, and others. Ms. Yarden was a longtime student of the renowned pianist Leon Fleisher at the Peabody Conservatory (Johns Hopkins University) in Baltimore, earning a Master of Music with high honors and a Graduate Performance Diploma. Prior to this, she received a Bachelor of Music with high honors from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University under the instruction of Prof. Emanuel Krasovsky. She has also received piano guidance from Richard Goode, Elisso Virsaladze, and Prof. Zvi Meniker (on historical fortepianos). She is based in Berlin. Videos Einav Yarden | C.P.E.
