What do Scott Joplin, Johannes Brahms, and German-Texan immigrants all have in common? They all went from Rags to Riches!
Join us for our Beerthoven Season 11 Finale, featuring solo and duo piano rags performed by Beerthoven’s own Executive Director Daniel Swayze and pianist Austin Haller, as well as Brahms’ Neue Liebeslieder Op. 65 and David Hanlon’s contemporary tribute to German-Texans; Texanische Liebeslieder! Featuring vocalists Trevor Shaw, Shari Wilson, Laura Mercado-Wright, and Gregory Hilliard.
Thanks to our sponsors, we will be serving warm pastries and cold beer generously provided by Easy Tiger and Lazarus Brewing as well as wine and non-alcoholic beverages–all at no additional cost!
Kids are welcome! Tickets for children as well as students through college age are available for $10. Purchase at the door or email daniel@beerthoven.com for advance student tickets.
This program is made possible by a generous donation from Kathy and Henry Leighton: From the estate of Sergeant John Christopher Leighton, US Army (retired). A survivor of two combat tours in Iraq who would certainly support the desire to “offer enriching musical experiences through down-to-earth means.”
About Saengerrunde Hall: Saengerrunde Hall is home to Austin’s oldest cultural institution, the German singing society the Austin Saengerrunde. The birthplace of the Austin Symphony, the Saengerrunde shares its property with the Scholz Garten; the oldest business in Texas and the oldest beer garden in America. Intermissions will be enjoyed on the Saengerrunde’s upstairs patio overlooking the Garten.
Saengerrunde Hall Parking Info: Look for parking in the state parking garages immediately surrounding the Saengerrunde facilities. During most of our events these are open and free of charge. Sometimes there is a parking attendant charging $30, especially when concurrent events take place in the Moody Center. In that event, you may look for parking on street or at the Capitol Visitors Parking Garage, three blocks south of the Saengerrunde on San Jacinto (this is typically free). The Bullock Museum also offers an inexpensive parking option.
About KMFA Classical 89.5: KMFA 89.5 is an independent public classical radio station in Austin, TX. KMFA serves approximately 100,000 listeners each week and features locally produced shows like Classical Austin, Early Music Now, and From the Butler School, as well as nationally distributed programming from Public Radio International, American Public Media, and National Public Radio. The Sunday, April 27th performance will take place in KMFA’s new East Austin building in their intimate, 130-seat Draylen Mason Studio.
KMFA Parking Info: Parking is available on-site at KMFA studios for no additional charge.
About Beerthoven: The Beerthoven Concert Series is a down-to-earth, approachable celebration of classical song and chamber music; a quirky mixture of Oktoberfest and Bach Fest, presented in a unique and intimate setting. Beerthoven finds its inspiration from the musical and festive events at the Austin Saengerrunde as well as the private “salon” concerts of Beethoven’s own time. There is no backstage area here; audience members may even find themselves standing in line for beer with the performers. Beerthoven Inc is a 501c3 non-profit and a Sponsored Project of the Austin Creative Alliance. Beerthoven is made possible through the support of the Austin Saengerrunde and individual benefactors.
